Liverpool's Joe Gomez undergoes knee surgery

Liverpool's defender Joe Gomez underwent surgery on his left knee after he suffered an injury during the national team training, the Reds announced on Thursday.

"The centre-back sustained the injury during a training session with the England national team on Wednesday. The issue was isolated to Gomez's tendon, with no damage to any other associated knee ligaments."

Liverpool added that the 23-year-old defender will begin the rehabilitation treatment immediately as he is expected to be rule out for a "significant part" of the season.
