LONDON
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel was suspended for three matches on Wednesday.
The Football Association stated that the Slovakian international stepped on the Manchester United goalkeeper's foot in injury time in their league match, which Manchester United won 2-1, on Sunday.
Skrtel will thus be ineligible for the next three matches.
The 30-year-old Slovakian was referred to the Disciplinary Committee despite not being shown a red card by referee Martin Atkinson.
The committee did not find Skrtel's defense adequate and the ban was given after video footage had been viewed.
The Liverpool defender will miss his team's upcoming league games against Arsenal and Newcastle United, as well as the quarter-final FA Cup match against Blackburn Rovers.
