Italy dominates Philippines in basketball World Cup

ANKARA

Italy hammered the Philippines 108-62 in Saturday's 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup group match in China.

Forwards Luigi Datome and Danilo Gallinari, and point guard Amedeo Della Valle were on fire against the Philippines, bringing the victory to Italy.

Fenerbahce Beko star Datome and Olimpia Milano's Della Valle scored 17 points each in the Group D match in the Chinese city of Foshan.

Gallinari -- playing for Oklahoma City Thunder in NBA -- tallied 16 points for Italy.

The Philippines' Andray Blatche and Jaymar Perez produced 15 points each against the Italians but the Philippine pair were unable to avoid the heavy loss.

The tournament is set to last through Sept. 15, bringing a record 32 countries together to compete for the title, including Turkey.

Joining the tournament for the fifth time, Turkey will face Japan, the U.S., and the Czech Republic in Group E.
