The Russian Football Federation decided to continue with manager Stanislav Cherchesov, who was in charge of the team during World Cup 2018 held in Russia.

The Football Federation announced that Cherchesov inked a 2+2 years deal with the national team.

"I am glad that we will continue to work with the Russian team," Cherchesov was quoted as saying.

"In terms of team results the bar is raised high enough, I would like to continue further in the same spirit. We understand the full measure of our responsibility, we will do our work with dignity," he said.

Alexander Alayev, the acting president of the Russian Football Federation, said the federation is "pleased to announce the extension of the agreement with Stanislav Cherchesov, under whose leadership the Russian team for the first time since 1970 reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup."

Russia managed to play in the quarterfinals against Croatia in World Cup 2018, their best record since the 1991 independence.
