U.S. Major League Soccer club Toronto FC announced Monday night that they will be adding Italian Serie A Juventus striker Sebastian Giovinco on a free transfer this summer as the player's deal expires at the end of this season.
According to the statement made on Toronto FC’s website, 27-year-old Giovinco has already signed a contract with the Canadian club.
U.S. press claimed that Giovinco inked a five-year deal and will earn approximately $7 million annually.
Toronto General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko expressed his delight over the signing. "We are beyond excited to add a player of Sebastian Giovinco’s caliber," he said.
Giovinco, the Canadian club's new number 10, said: "I am excited to sign with Toronto today and look forward to joining the club this summer."
Starting his professional career at Juventus in 2006, Giovinco had been loaned to Italian teams Empoli and Parma and returned to the Torinese club in 2012.
The Italian international has scored two goals in 11 appearances for Juventus this season.
Sebastian Giovinco is regarded as a versatile player since he is able to play both as a left winger or attacking midfielder.
