Football: Iran's national manager set to leave

TEHRAN

Iran's national football manager, Portuguese national Carlos Queiroz, is set to resign from his job due to external pressure.

Talking to the Iranian Students News Agency on Sunday, Queiroz said that he is obliged to resign. "The federation did not want it to be like this but the two sides had to accept it because of pressure," said Queiroz.

The Fars News Agency claimed that Queiroz decided to part ways with Iran after being prevented from picking two internationals, Sardar Azmoun and Alireza Jahanbakhsh, for the squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Chile and Sweden.

There was a disagreement between the manager and the Iranian Football Federation as the federation called the players up for the Under-23 Olympic Team.

The former Real Madrid manager extended his contract with Iran until 2018 last year and was preparing the team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz will leave Iran after friendly matches against Chile and Sweden at the end of this month.
