EFL Championship club Derby County have appointed Wayne Rooney as the club's permanent manager Friday.

Rooney joined Derby County as a player in Jan. 2020 before replacing former head coach Philip Cocu in November as an interim manager.

The 35-year-old inked a two-and-half-year deal with the English club, Derby confirmed on their website.

Following this appointment, Rooney has officially ended his playing career.

"When I first arrived back in the United Kingdom I was completely blown away by the potential of Derby County Football Club. The Stadium, training ground, the quality of the playing staff and the young players coming through and, of course, the fan base that has remained loyal and supportive," Rooney said.

During his playing career, Rooney lifted five Premier League titles in addition to the 2008 Champions League trophy.
