17th Mediterranean Games

MERSİN (AA) - Turkish athlete Tugba Koyuncu won the bronze medal in women's 1,500 meter final event with a time of 4.06.22.

The Moroccan athlete Silham Hilali broke a Games record with a time of 4.04.06 and won the gold medal, Italian Margherita Gargano won the silver medal with a time of 4.06.71 on Wednesday's games held in the southern Turkish province of Mersin. 

- Men's Handball

In the Group A, in men's handball Turkey defeated Algeria 26-24 and made it to the semifinals. 

- Men's Boxing 49 kg

Turkish boxer Ferhat Pehlivan won the silver medal in men's 49 kg boxing. Algerian athlete Mohamed Flissi, who upset Pehlivan won the gold medal. The bronze medal went to the Egyptian Ramy el Awadi and Italian Manues Cappai.

- Men's 110 meters hurdles  final-

Greece' Konstantinos Douvalidis set a games record with a time of 13.52 and won the gold medal, while French Thomas Martinot Lagarde placed second with 13.48 and Algerian Othman Hadj Lazib took the third place with 13.61.

- Men's 60 kg freestyle wrestling

The Turkish wrestler Bunyamin Aydin claimed the silver medal in men's 60 kg freestyle wrestling, losing against French rival Sofiane Oumiha in the final. 

Italian Fabio Introvaia and the Algerian Mohamed Amine Ouadahi won the bronze medals. 

-Men's 64 kg wrestling

Turkish athlete Fatih Keles lost in the hands of his Algerian opponent Abdelkader Chadi in the final and won the silver. The Algerian Chadi won the gold medal, and Egyptian Eslam Mohamed and Greek Alexandros Tsanidikis claimed the bronze medals. 

- Women's 200 meters final

Turkish athlete Nimet Karakus on Wednesday clinched the bronze medal in women's 200 meter with a time of 23.40, breaking national Under-23 record. Greek Cypriot athlete Eleni Artymata claimed the title with 23.18, while Italian Libania Grenot won the bronze medal with 23.20.

- Men's 200 meters final 

Turkish athlete Ramil Guliyev won the silver with a time of 20.46 in men's 200 meters final. The gold medal went to Greek athlete Lykourgos Tsakonas with 20.45 and Spanish athlete Sergio Ruiz Serrano won the bronze medal with a time of 20.74.

- Men's Javelin Throw Final

Turkish athlete Fatih Avan won the gold medal at the men's javelin throw final with 83.84 meters. The silver medal went to Egyptian athlete Ihab Abdelrahman with 82.45 and the bronze went to Greek athlete Spyros Lebesis with 78.53 meters.

17th Mediterranean Games
 
Turkish athlete Elvan Abeylegesses ran 32.59.30 in women's 10,000 meters final on Wednesday in the 17th Mediterranean Games held in the southern Turkish province of Mersin.

Algerian Kenza Dahmani won the gold with 32.42.47 while compatriot Souad Ait Salem won the bronze with a time of 33.19.34.

- Men's 96kg freestyle wrestling 

Turkish athlete Riza Yildirim won the gold medal in men's 96 kg freestyle wrestling with 2-0 win against his Tunisian rival Rochdi Rhimi. Albania's Egzon Shala and Italia's Stefano Trapani clinched the bronze medals.

Turkish wrestler Soner Demirtas in men's 74 kg freestyle wrestling won the gold medal. Egypt's Abdou Ahmed won the silver medal, while Serbian Zaur Efendiev and French Luca Lampis ranked the third.

In Men's 60 kg freestyle wrestling, Turkish athlete Erhan Bakir reached to the gold medal by defeating Moroccan Hamza Fatah.

Egypt's Ibrahim Mohamed and Macedonian Jasin Redjalari won the bronze medals.

- Men's Weightlifting 

In men's 105 kg snatch, Greek David Kavelasvili won the gold medal, lifting 173 kg.

Syria's Ahed Jugheli clinched the silver with 171 kg while Algerian Walid Bidani got the bronze with 95 kg.

Also in clean and jerk, Greek Kavelasvili won the silver medal lifting 215 kg.

Syria's Ahed Jugheli took his second silver with 212 kg while Egypt's Ibrahim Mohammed got the bronze medal with 203 kg.

 

- Men's Shooting

In air gun, French Valerian Sauveplane won the gold medal in men's 50 m rifle prone.

Italia's Marco De Nicola and Croatia's Bojan Durkovic took the second place while Turkish Hikmet Karaaslan ranked the last.

In double trap category, Maltese shooter William Chetcuti clinched the gold.

Italian Antonino Barilla took the silver while Turkish Yavuz Ilnam got the bronze.

 

- Women's Shooting

In air gun, Serbian Zorana Arunovic reached the gold in women's 25 m air pistol with 14 points.

Greek Agathi Kasoumi clinched the silver with 13 points and the bronze medal went to Serbian Jasna Sekaric who got 12 points.

 

- Women's Volleyball 

Turkey defeated Greece with a 3-1 win, proceeding to semi-finals as group leader.

In a Group B game, Italy made it to the final after a 3-0 win against France. 

 

- Athletics 

The first gold medal of athletics was won by Jessika Guehaseim in the women's hammer with a throw of 67.14 m.

Spain's Berta Castells Franco clinched the silver medal recording 66.16 metres while Italia's Silvia Salis got the bronze with a throw of 62.52 metres.

Turkish athlete Aysegul Alniacik ranked the fourth measuring at 62.23 meters.
