ANKARA
Spanish Football Club Valencia appointed retired Portuguese goalkeeper Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach on Friday.
According to the club's statement, the newly appointed head coach, who managed Portuguese club Rio Ave last season, inked a one year contract with Valencia.
Forty-year-old Santo who retired in 2012, played for Spanish clubs Deportivo La Coruna and Osasuna and Portuguese giants Porto during his career. Valencia's head coach was never capped for his country Portugal despite being a part of the national team in UEFA Euro 2008.
Last season Valencia, which was managed by Spanish head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi, finished in eight place in the domestic league; La Liga.
