The software industry is undergoing a massive shift as artificial intelligence (AI) transforms the sector, driving a new trend called “vibe coding.”

Vibe coding refers to a trial-and-error form of software development in which developers use AI chatbots to write code without preparing comprehensive documentation. This step-by-step approach leads to constantly evolving development, where changes occur as needs arise.

The widespread adoption of AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot and chatbots like ChatGPT is driving changes in how developers work.
“Vibe coders” consult these AI large language models (LLMs) about their ideas to quickly produce working prototypes and improve the code over time.

Vibe coding offers speed and flexibility, allowing developers to prototype quickly, test ideas, and adapt projects based on user feedback.

However, this approach also carries risks -- in large-scale and long-term projects, vibe coding can lead to architectural clutter, technical errors, and challenges in maintaining sustainable software.

The lack of planning and documentation can further complicate development and maintenance.

AI-powered coding tools and vibe coding are growing in popularity, but the widespread adoption raises serious questions, according to a September 2025 report.

According to the report, Catherine Wu, head of product at Anthropic, said developers now define high-level goals instead of focusing on individual lines of code, though the ultimate responsibility still lies with engineers.

Wu said AI decisions are not always correct and human judgment remains critical.

The rise of vibe coding is also reshaping employment in the software industry.

The increasing number of vibe-coded projects has reignited debates over AI’s impact on jobs.

A study at the University of Gdansk in Poland found that generative AI increased job security concerns even as productivity gains were observed.

The research, which analyzed 68 participants, found that most used generative AI tools and reported increased productivity. However, a strong correlation was found between firms’ AI investments and employees’ concerns about job security.

The study also found that as firms adopt AI more extensively, workers fear potential replacement by automation.
As AI-powered tools become more widespread, vibe coding is expected to gain further traction in the software industry.

Experts say vibe coding can boost productivity when used in moderation and alongside proper planning and architectural discipline, particularly in corporate and large-scale projects.
