US, Turkey discuss Suleyman Shah operation

WASHINGTON

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry spoke with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu Sunday about "Turkey’s successful overnight operation at the Tomb of Suleyman Shah in Syria," an official statement said.

According to a State Department official, Kerry expressed his condolences to Turkey and family of the Turkish soldier who died in an accident during the operation.

The state department official added that the U.S. and Turkey had been in close coordination on developments in Syria, including intelligence and information sharing.

The tomb of Suleyman Shah, Turkey's only exclave, was temporarily relocated to a new site within Syria because of the ongoing conflict in the country, Turkish Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

The tomb was located in Karakozak Village in Munbic, Syria, 37 kilometers away from the borders of Turkey, and it was guarded by Turkish Armed Forces personnel.

The new site is now in the north of Syria, Esmesi village close to the Turkish borders
