BAGHDAD
The U.S. has delivered 100 Hellfire missiles to the Iraqi government, along with automatic rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition, in line with a long-term bilateral security agreement, the U.S. embassy in Baghdad said Sunday.
In a statement, the embassy added that the deliveries, made earlier this month, were based on an assessment – conducted jointly by Iraqi and U.S. security experts – of the needs of the Iraqi security forces.
It is the latest in a series of deliveries of critical U.S. equipment to Iraq, according to the embassy.
"The U.S. looks forward to working closely with Iraqi leaders and military commanders to determine and address additional critical equipment needs over the coming weeks," the statement added.
Since mid-January, the U.S. has delivered more than 11 million rounds of ammunition, thousands of flares and grenades, and thousands of machine guns, sniper rifles, automatic rifles and other weapons to the Iraqi army, the statement noted.
