UNESCO to protect and restore cultural heritage in Mali

UNITED NATIONS

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will work to protect and restore cultural heritage in Mali where the French military intervention continues.

According to a statement released by the UNESCO, Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova stressed that restoring important cultural heritage in Mali would extend support to the people of Mali and make contributions to national unity and their future.
We will work with the Malian government to restore Mali's cultural heritage, Bokova also said.
There are around 300,000 hand-written pieces of materials in Mali. These documents have important information on Islamic sciences, mathematics, medicine, space, music, literature and architecture.
