The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has started on Wednesday a debate on the deteriorating situation of human rights and the regime's assault on the central town of Qusayr upon an urgent call from the US, Turkey and Qatar.
Speaking at a session, Navanethem Pillay ,UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said violence in Syria triggered sectarian tension destabilizing the region.
Pillay said Assad forces used unbalanced force causing deaths and injuries in many parts of the country including Qusayr.
"I am very concerned about the Syrians trapped in the clashes between the Assad regime and the opposition. Hundreds of civilians have been killed and injured in the clashes," said Pillay.
Pillay called on both sides to protect the civilians and provide security for the ones who wanted to leave the region, adding they needed to take an action to prevent more bloodshed.
" We need a political solution rather than a military one," said Pillay, adding, "No arms should be sent to Syria and national dialogue process should start as of this moment."
