Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Cemil Cicek praised Tunisia's new national charter on Friday.
"Tunisia's new constitution upholds equal rights and freedoms forthe citizensof Tunisia," Cicek told heads of state and high-profile figures gathered at the headquarters of Tunisia's National Constituent Assembly (NCA) to celebrate the new charter's endorsement.
"Tunis has shown the culture of Islam to the world," Cicek asserted. "It's an experience that deserves appreciation; an act that deserves emulation in the region."
Cicek added:"We have stood by the Tunisian people's revolution from the beginning and we will continue to support it."
On Friday,Tunisia held official celebrations to mark the endorsement of the new charter, which was ratified by the elected NCA late last month.
Tunisia's 2011 uprising, which toppled autocratic president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, triggered a wave of popular uprisings across the Arab world.
