Tunisia's President Moncef Marzouki on Monday demanded a ceasefire in Syria.
According to sources from the Tunisian Presidency, Marzouki congratulated the winner of Iran's presidential elections, Hassan Rouhani, during a telephone conversation.
Marzouki urged his Iranian counterpart to help secure a ceasefire in Syria, underlining that especially during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan attacks against civilians must stop.
"Military operations had to stop on both sides," Marzouki told the Iran's new leader, voicing concern over surging civilian casualties.
