KIEV, Ukraine
Three pro-Russian separatists were killed and 13 others wounded overnight in a clash between Ukraine's armed forces and pro-Russian separatists in the town of Mariupol on the Sea of Azov, said Ukraine’s interior minister on Thursday.
On Facebook, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said: "According to preliminary data, three attackers were killed, 13 wounded and 63 detained."
Avakov said a group of around 300 separatists attacked a military unit in the town and a clash erupted between Ukraine's armed forces and the separatists, adding the operation was still continuing.
Avakov also said the separatists had Russian operated gsm phones and the Ukrainian officials were continuing to try to ascertain their identities.
