SANLIURFA, Turkey
The pro-Kurdish Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD) has been preventing Syrians who wish to pass from Turkey’s border district Akcakale to the Syrian city of Tal Abyad for 15 days.
The People’s Defense Units (YPG), the PYD's military wing, had captured the border city from Daesh on June 15, assisted by U.S.-led coalition airstrikes.
Abdul-Karim Abdul-Jabbar, a Syrian refugee, told Anadolu Agency that he has been prevented by PYD from going back to his country for around 15 days.
He also said that Turkey does not impose any restrictions on Syrians who wish to return to their homes.
Turkey considers PYD as a terrorist organization.
The Syrian Kurdish group’s recent capture of the northern Syrian town of Tal Abyad has fueled concerns that the group is aiming to found an independent Kurdish state or a fully autonomous region in the area.
