The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, also known as Syrian National Coalition (SNC), expressed Thursday its gratitude over US Congress approval of arming Syrian rebels.
The opposition needs advanced weapons to counter regime's air superiority in residential areas under control of the opposition, said SNC in a written statement.
The statement said the SNC had pledged that weapons will be delivered to rebels groups in the Free Syrian Army who "act in accordance with SNC's objectives."
Congressional officials Tuesday indicated support for arming the Syrian opposition following an announcement by the White House in June that it would provide limited military support for the opposition groups fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad.
