Seven people were killed in the suicide attack on the US consulate in Afghanistan's western Herat province early Friday.
A police official, Rahmatullah Safey, stated that protestors exploded a bomb-laden vehicle in front of the consulate building and a gunfight broke out between Afghan police and the consulate's security officials.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack which killed 2 consulate personnel and 5 of the attackers and wounded 15 others.
Safey added that US special forces undertook security measures following the attack.
