MOSCOW
Russia's foreign ministry released a statement on its website on Tuesday morning praising the local freeze initiative of UN special envoy Staffan de Mistura.
"The Russian side strongly supports these initiatives, mainly aimed at resolving the situation in Syria's largest city of Aleppo," read the statement. "We presume that such efforts will help end violence, alleviate the suffering of thousands of civilians and help people return to normal life."
The statement pointed to what the Russian foreign ministry considered to be successful implementation of the ceasefire policy in Homs and eastern Ghouta.
It also claimed that UN food aid has begun to reach civilians in the al-Waer district, the last opposition stronghold in Homs.
