Pope Francis, the new spiritual leader of Catholic Christian world, said that he would devote his life to poor people.
Pope Francis is the 266th pope of Catholic world, and was elected on March 13.
During his first meeting with nearly 6,000 reporters including Anadolu Agency correspondent, Pope Francis said he was inspired to take the name of St. Francis of Assisi because of his work for peace and the poor.
Pope Francis said he was comforted by his friend, Brazilian Cardinal Claudio Hummes, during the papal voting, adding, "he hugged me. He kissed me. He said don't forget about the poor. And that's how in my heart came the name Francis of Assisi."
Pope Francis' predecessor Benedict left papacy on February 28.
