WASHINGTON
White House Spokesman Jay Carney said on Monday US President Barack Obama will not weigh in on whether the Justice Department should bring civil rights charges against George Zimmerman following his acquittal in the murder of 17 year-old unarmed Trayvon Martin.
Speaking at a daily press briefing, Carney said "Cases are brought on the merits," adding the merits were evaluated by the professionals at the Department of Justice.
"That's not something the president involves himself in," Carney said. "The process will be handled in the way it should be at the Department of Justice."
