Islamabad
Pakistan’s parliament approved Nawaz Sharif as prime minister on Wednesday, after Sharif’s party’s victory in the May 11 Nawaz Sharif parliamentary elections.
Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) won 244 seats in the 342-member parliament, returning him to the prime minister’s office for an unprecedented third time.
Sharif will take over the post from Asif Ali Zardari and he will be officially sworn-in later Thursday.
The 63-year-old Sharif, who served two terms, form 1990-1993 and 1997-1999 before being ousted from office in a 1999 military coup, has spent nearly eight years in exile.
