Talking to a press conference, Rasmussen said it was correct that they detected Syria continued to fire Scud-type missiles. He said, "I consider firings acts of a desperate regime approaching collapse."
He said Syria's act showed the importance of the need for the effective protection and defense of Turkey.
Rasmussen said although the missiles did not land on Turkey's soil, it was still a potential danger for Turkey and added that for that reason NATO decided to deploy Patriots on Turkey's Syrian border for defense purposes.
