National People's Congress session launches in China
Political reforms and environmental issues will be on the agenda.

The most important consulting mechanism in China, the 12th National People's Congress (NPC), was launched in capital Beijing on Monday with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang in attendance
The congress, consisting of 2200 delegates representing ethnic groups and institutions, was held in the 'Great Hall of the People' in historical Tiananmen Square.
The congress consists of plenary meetings and workshops. The main aim of the plenary meetings are to examine and approve the reports and bills on the session's agenda, in particular the working reports of the NPC Standing Committee, the State Council, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate. Also on the agenda will be China's air pollution problem and its sustainable economic growth.
The president of the NPC laid emphasis on reforms and innovation and stressed that the congress will work on the fiscal policies, the tax, judicial and internet systems during the sessions with the hope of presenting some recommendations for consideration to the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government.
Xi reiterated the importance of the sessions in developing relations between ethnic and religious groups.
