Supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi are planning more activities on Sunday to show support for the deposed Islamist president.
The National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy, a coalition of largely Islamic parties, said scholars and preachers will organize a rally Sunday from outside Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo after the noon prayer.
The students union will hold a press conference at Rabee Al-Adawiya Mosque to discuss further escalations against the “military coup”.
Morsi, Egypt’s first democratically elected president, was ousted by the military on July 3 following mass street protests against him and his regime.
Thousands of his loyalists have since been staging marches, rallies, sit-ins and mass protests to defend his legitimacy and demand his reinstatement.
A number of ministers who have resigned their post in protest at the army’s overthrow of the elected president are also planning a press conference at Rabee Al-Adawiya Mosque.
Thousands of Morsi loyalists have been camping out at Rabee Square in the Cairo district of Nasr City in a show of defiance support for him.
Morsi opponents are still camping out at the iconic Tahrir Square to show support for the army’s roadmap for the future of post-Morsi Egypt.
