KILIS, Turkey / ALEPPO, Syria
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants clashed with Syrian Turkmen forces on Thursday in Cobanbey town, Aleppo, which was occupied by ISIL last week.
The 1st Fatih Division, an umbrella group made up of Turkmen opposition troops in Aleppo, attacked ISIL in Cobanbey, which is a mainly Turkmen populated village.
ISIL and Turkmen forces have been clashing for two days in Cobanbey village, near the Turkish border, according to the media manager of Local Coordination Committees of Syria (LCC), Ahmed Mohammed Ali.
He added that Turkmen forces eliminated 40 ISIL militants, capturing many others and destroying their four vehicles.
Turkmen forces seized control of the Vakif region, Kahriba village, a facility providing electricity for the town and a key highway linking the town with the cities of Aleppo, Bab and Kandura.
Reports also suggest that the clashes are heard in Cobanbey village of Elbeyli district in Turkey's Kilis province - Turkish security forces have started to patrol along the Turkish-Syrian border.
It is also reported that Free Syrian Army (FSA) supports Syrian Turkmen forces.
