TEHRAN
The Iranian parliament rejected Wednesday President Hassan Rouhani's nominee, Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, to head the Ministry of Science and Technology, Iran's official news agency IRNA said.
Ahmadabadi failed to get a vote of confidence from the parliament. In the voting process, 160 lawmakers polled against him, 79 in favor and seven were neutral from a total of 246 votes, the agency said.
Rouhani had proposed Ahmadabadi for the post after the parliament dismissed former minister Reza Faraji-Dana during an impeachment session in August.
Ahead of the voting, Rouhani had refuted allegations that Ahmadabadi was anti-regime and urged for support for his nominee.
