BERLIN
German President Joachim Gauck will deliver the opening speech of 2014 Munich Security Conference in 2014, being the first German president opening the conference.
Many speakers from the US want to attend the conference between January 31- February 2, said conference chairman Wolfgang Ischinger in a written statement on Thursday.
Other issues expected to be discussed in the conference are the tension in South China Sea and the situation in Ukraine and war-torn Syria.
The traditional conference is organized annually since 1963. It was skipped only two times until now, because of the Gulf War in 1991 and changing of the conference committee members in 1997.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is due to attend the conference, besides US State Secretary John Kerry, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen and Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier.
A total of 18 government and state leaders, 50 foreign minister and defense ministers and the representatives of around 10 international organizations are expected to attend the conference this year.
