ARUSHA, Tanzania
German President Joachim Gauck is expected in Tanzania later on Monday at the invitation of his Tanzanian counterpart, Jakaya Kikwete.
"While in Tanzania, President Gauck will have in-camera talks with his Jakaya Kikwete in Dar es Salaam's State House before addressing the media," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ali Mkumbwa told The Anadolu Agency.
The two leaders will meet Tuesday, when Kikwete will host a state dinner in honor of his guest.
According to a government statement, Gauck will be accompanied on his visit by several prominent businesspeople who will examine business opportunities in Tanzania.
Mkumbwa said the German leader would also hold talks with civil society representatives and visit the Azania Front historical Lutheran Church in Dar es Salaam.
President Gauck will later travel to Zanzibar – a semi-autonomous archipelago that together with the mainland form the United Republic of Tanzania – for talks with Zanzibar President Ali Mohamed Shein.
"In Zanzibar, the German president will also meet and talk to German volunteers working on the Island," Mkumbwa told AA.
"The German president will also visit the African Court on Human and People's Rights and East African Community (EAC) headquarters in Arusha," he added.
Arusha is the seat of several international organizations, including the International Tribunal for Rwanda.
President Gauck will also visit the world-renowned Serengeti National Park, where he will witness the wildebeest migration from Serengeti to Masai Mara National Park in neighboring Kenya.
The German leader is expected to depart Tanzania on Friday.
Also expected to visit the country before President Kikwete leaves office in October is Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is expected next month or in early April.
