The G7, the group of the seven wealthiest and most developed nations, have said they will not recognize the results from the planned referendum in Crimea in a statement issued by the White House.
“Any such referendum would have no legal effect. Given the lack of adequate preparation and the intimidating presence of Russian troops, it would also be a deeply flawed process, which would have no moral force. For all these reasons, we would not recognize the outcome,” the said statement.
The G7 countries -- Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States -- added that if Russia did not stop in its efforts to annex Crimea they would "take further action, individually and collectively."
Martin Schaefer, spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, said the statement released by the G7 came "just in time." He also reiterated that the referendum planned for March 16 in Crimea is in violation of the international law.
