Ali Haider Gilani, son of Pakistan's former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, was kidnapped during an election rally.
Security officials stated that gunmen attacked Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) election rally, adding that there were casualties as the gunmen opened fire.
After 4.5 years at the prime ministry seat, Gilani was discharged from the office by a court decision six months ago.
Gilani, together with his sons, was running PPP's election campaign in Multan, a city in Pakistan.
-Election convoy attacked: 2 killed -
Two people were killed during an attack on the convoy of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Party ahead of May 11 elections.
Police officers said also three people were injured in the attack targeting a candidate of PML-N.
No one has claimed the responsibility for the attack yet.
Over 120 people have been killed in Pakistan during the election period.
