PARIS
The memoir of France's former first lady published on Thursday, giving her version of her acrimonious split from French President Francoise Hollande, has already become the best-selling book on Amazon France.
Journalist Valerie Trierweiler was Hollande's partner for seven years until the split in January when she found out about his affair with actress Julie Gayet.
The memoir; "Merci pour le Moment" (thanks for the Moment) details the forty nine-year-old's almost two years at the Elysee Palace and has already been serialized in magazine Paris Match (the magazine Trierweiler works for).
Holland's affair with Gayet was revealed in January by Closer magazine. Trierweiler was hospitalized for a week after the publication of the article.
She tells how Holland, 60, sent her about 29 texts in one day after the split, trying to win her back.
Trierweiler and Hollande met in 2005 while he was in a relationship with current Energy Minister Segolene Royal, the mother of his four children. Hollande officially left Royal, for Trierweiler in 2007. She later became France's first lady after he was elected in 2012.
She describes him as "cold" since the day he came to power. Of her role she says; "I’m his stooge, but I have no value".
Trierweiler claims that the French president is a snob who mocks the poor, calling them the “sans-dents” (toothless ones). Tweeters in France stormed twitter with the hashtag #sansdents on Thursday as they shared photos of Hollande's with his teeth removed.
The president’s office denies the claims.
French Prime Minster Manuel Valls, called the claims; "outrageous attacks".
