Europe, Israel must fight 'radical Islam': Netanyahu

JERUSALEM

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that Europe should stand alongside Israel in the fight against "radical Islam," following a deadly attack on a satirical magazine in Paris.

"Yesterday's murderous attack on free expression clearly demonstrates the disdain of radical Islam for the values we hold dear," Netanyahu said following a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende in West Jerusalem.

"Israel is being attacked by the very same forces that attack Europe," Netanyahu said. "Israel stands with Europe. Europe must stand with Israel."

"These extremists are part of a global movement and this necessitates a global response," he said.

On Wednesday, three masked gunmen attacked the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing eight of its editors, including its chief editor, along with four other people, including a policeman.

French President Francois Hollande has described the shootings as a "terrorist attack."
