Egyptian security forces stormed early Thursday the Giza village of Kerdasa.

Some of the local residents exchanged heavy fire with the troops that besieged the area from all sides, before the advancing forces were able to enter the district from its eastern side.

An Egyptian police general was reportedly killed during the storming, a security source told Anadolu Agency.

Security forces began raiding the homes of some members of the Muslim Brotherhood, the group from which ousted president Mohamed Morsi hails.

Troops were also seen chasing several groups of local residents, shooting in the air.
