BERLIN
Five days before elections in Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel mentioned coalition partner the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and said, "The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has no votes to give away."
During her election campaign visit to the German city of Potsdam on Monday, Merkel said, "Everybody works for its own policy. We will continue the coalition with the FDP but the CDU has no votes to give away."
The FDP started a campaign for voters' second votes during the elections. Voters in Germany first vote for a constituency representative, and then submit a second vote for a political party. German political parties may ask voters for their second vote for a possible coalition party.
