SIMFEROPOL, Autonomous Republic of Crimea
Crimea's newly appointed pro-Russia Premier, Sergei Aksenov, announced that the referendum, may be held before March 30.
Aksenov said in a press conference that the referendum to extend Crimea's autonomy status may be held at an earlier date, rather than March 30, by the direction of Crimea High Council decisions.
Crimea’s parliament convened when the region was occupied by armed groups and decided to conduct a referendum on May 25 on the extension of Crimea's autonomy status. The date was then scheduled for March 30.
Aksenov was appointed on February 27 as the Chairman of the Crimean parliament, backed by the majority of lawmakers.
