Afghan forces killed 78 Taliban militants during a series of operations in several provinces across Afghanistan on Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.
Afghan National Police killed 37 Taliban members and wounded eight others during operations in the following provinces: Nangarhar, Zabul, Logar, Khost, Kunar, Paktia, Herat, Helmand and Nimroz. Six Taliban members were arrested, two Afghan policemen were killed and one was wounded in the operations, according to Afghanistan's Interior Ministry.
A number of weapons and explosives were also seized.
In a separate district of eastern Nangarhar province, Afghan forces killed 41 Taliban members.
The Interior Ministry reported that Afghan forces defused 18 roadside bombs placed by the Taliban.
However, Taliban Spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid rejected the figures given by the Ministry, saying numerous Afghan and foreign soldiers were killed in the attacks.
