ANKARA
A group of 44 people, including 4 Turks, who were taken captive in northern Iraqi city Kirkuk, were rescued by Turkmen, said diplomatic sources on Thursday.
Militants led by the group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant abducted 31 Turkish truck drivers and 49 Turkish Consulate staff, including the consul general and family members, from Iraq's second largest city Mosul last week.
Meanwhile, according to diplomatic sources, Deputy Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu went to northern Iraq for a day to get information about Turkish aid sent to support around 20,000 Iraqi Turkmen in the country.
