ORAN, Algeria
Algerian security forces in the western Tiaret province have arrested two men suspected of recruiting young men to fight for the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) militant group, an Algerian security source has said.
"Security forces arrested a university professor and an unemployed man in the Tiraet province who were suspected of recruiting young men for ISIL," the security source, who requested anonymity, told The Anadolu Agency on Friday.
"The arrests came after police had monitored the suspects' movements around several mosques in Tiraet, along with their internet communications," the source said.
"The suspects had tried to convince several young men to travel to Syria to fight with the group," he added.
Tiraet's local prosecution authorities have ordered both men detained pending trial, according to the source.
The Algerian authorities have yet to officially comment on the arrests.
