Thailand's corruption commission has confiscated more than $5.3 million worth of gold from the ex-head of the country's revenue department while it carries out a corruption probe.
National Anti Corruption Commission spokesman Sansern Poljeak said in a statement Thursday that Director General Sathit Rangkhasiri had been implicated in a missing assets probe worth over 4.3 billion baht ($127 million).
Sansern said that the confiscated assets would remain in commission hands until investigations are finalized.
Sathit is not the first high-ranking official to be investigated for corruption by Thailand's military junta.
Former premier Yingluck Shinawatra is currently awaiting trial for graft over her role in her administration's rice subsidy policy.
Meanwhile in January, Police General Pongpat Chayapan was sentenced to six years in jail for running an illegal casino.
Officials also seized over 1 billion baht in cash and other valuables from his home.
