Turkish Ambassador to Libya Ahmet Aydin Dogan on Thursday visited Sudanese counterpart Osman al-Faki in Tripoli, who was attacked earlier this month by unknown assailants.

On Sept. 6, al-Faki was assaulted -- and robbed -- by unknown attackers amid clashes in Tripoli between rival armed groups.

During Dogan’s Thursday visit to al-Faki’s residence, he wished the Sudanese diplomat a speedy recovery, according to the Turkish embassy’s twitter account.

On Sept. 4, a cease-fire was declared aimed at ending several days of sporadic fighting in Tripoli between rival armed groups that had left dozens dead.

Six days later, however, fighting resumed following an armed attack on the headquarters of Libya’s National Oil Corporation.

Libya has remained dogged by turmoil since 2011, when a bloody NATO-backed uprising led to the ouster and death of long-serving President Muammar Gaddafi after more than four decades in power.

Since then, Libya’s stark political divisions have yielded two rival seats of power -- one in Tobruk and another in Tripoli -- and a host of heavily armed militia groups.
