Turkish military is advancing to Iraq’s Mt. Qandil as part of an operation launched against PKK terrorists in March, the ruling party’s spokesman said on Wednesday.
“Our army is now advancing to Qandil,” Mahir Unal, Justice and Development (AK) Party’s spokesman, said in southern Kahramanmaras province.
Unal said that the Turkish Armed forces have brought peace to the east and southeast of Turkey.
He also said that Turkey turned to Iraq after completing Operation Euphrates Shield and Operation Olive Branch to uproot terrorism.
Airstrikes on PKK targets in northern Iraq, where the terror group has its main base in the Mt. Qandil region, near the Iranian border, have been carried out regularly since July 2015, when the terrorist PKK resumed its armed campaign.
