Turkish fighter jets have hit PKK terror targets in northern Iraq, the country's defense ministry said on Monday.

The warplanes targeted the terrorist organization's shelters and ammo depots in Hakurk and Avasin-Basyan regions, the ministry said in a statement.

In a separate operation in the eastern Turkish province of Tunceli, security forces have destroyed PKK shelters, the local governor's office said.

Security forces have impounded explosives and defused two improvised explosive devices found in the shelters.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including many women and children. The YPG/PKK is its Syrian branch.
