Syria: Turkish NGO turns war-weary building into school

ERZURUM, Turkey

Members of a non-governmental organization in eastern Turkey have repaired a terror-weary building and turned it into a school in Syria’s Al-Bab, according to the organization's head on Tuesday.

Mustafa Guvenli, the head of the Erzurum Civil Society Platform (ESTP), said in a written statement that they have turned the building, that was destroyed by bombardments, into a school in Al-Bab.

The northern Syrian region was cleared from terrorists during Turkey's Operation Euphrates Shield.

The operation, which began on Aug. 24, 2016 and ended in March 2017, was aimed at eliminating the terrorist threat along the border in the northern Syrian regions of Jarabulus, Al-Rai, Al-Bab, and Azaz with the use of the Free Syrian Army, backed by Turkish artillery and air cover.

Stating that they named the school the Erzurum Secondary School, Guvenli said: “As ESTP, we have repaired the school where a thousand students receive education.

“A new era begins in Syria’s Al-Bab city," he added.

He also expressed pleasure for contributing to the process as the ESTP, adding: “As the [Turkish] nation, we have brought love, peace and knowledge to every place we went throughout the history”.

“People of Al-Bab also show a special interest and love to Turkey and Turkish people because of the peace they have found thanks to Turkish soldiers.”
