Explosion heard in Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus, Interior Ministry says

ISTANBUL
An explosion was reported in the Mezzeh neighborhood of the Syrian capital Damascus on Wednesday evening, the Interior Ministry said.
In a ministry statement, Osama Khair Atkeh, head of internal security in Damascus, said the blast was caused by an explosive device targeting a security personnel.
“Our units responded immediately and cordoned off the site,” he said.
No injuries were reported.
Atkeh said an investigation was launched to identify those behind “this terrorist act.”
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) earlier said that an investigation was underway into the explosion.
The Syrian government has intensified efforts to maintain security in the country since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on Dec. 8, 2024, after 24 years in power.
