Syrian security forces dismantled a “terrorist cell” plotting sabotage in the western province of Homs, the Interior Ministry said Monday.
A ministry statement said the plot, which targeted security and stability in Homs, was thwarted by internal security forces, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service.
“The operation came as a result of precise intelligence efforts,” the ministry said, adding that specialized units carried out a raid targeting the location where the cell members were hiding.
The operation resulted in “neutralizing two members” and securing full control of the site, the ministry added.
Security forces seized a cache of weapons during the operation, including anti-tank missile launchers, sniper rifles, automatic rifles, RPG launchers, ammunition and bombs, the statement said.
The ministry said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle sleeper cells and cut off sources of “terrorism,” stressing full readiness to confront any threats to public safety and national security.
Syria’s new administration has stepped up efforts to restore security and assert control as part of broader plans to recover from years of war and rebuild and stabilize the country.
