MISURATA, Libya

Four people were killed and two dozens injured in a suicide bombing in Libya’s northwestern city of Misurata on Wednesday, according to a local medical source.

Security forces engaged three gunmen during an attack on a courthouse in the city, killing two of them, a security source said.

“A third attacker blew up himself after being encircled by court guards,” the source added on condition of anonymity because he was unauthorized to speak to media.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Tripoli-based Libyan news agency, however, said the attack took place at the moment of the arrival of a number of Daesh suspects during their trial session at the courthouse.

The security source said the attackers were trying to free the Daesh suspects during the trial.

Since the ouster and death of longstanding ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya has been badly destabilized by chronic political wrangling and a proliferation of heavily-armed militia groups.
