At least one person was killed and three wounded in a terrorist mortar attack in a high-profile area of the Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday, officials said.

Three mortar shells targeted the presidential palace and a nearby residential area in the capital’s Warta Nabadda district, according to local media.

Mohamed Bulle, a police sergeant in Mogadishu, confirmed over the phone to Anadolu Agency the number of dead and wounded.

Somali-based al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the mortar attack via the internet.
